Vickers shaft seal 394974 for 45VQ pumps

Primary shaft seal with Vickers part number 394974, for 45VQ series vane pumps. In the parts list for the 4525VQ double pump it is shown as the primary shaft seal of the 45VQ section.

According to Vickers, the seal is fitted with the spring-loaded lip facing the bearing and must be well wetted with oil before assembly. Pumps with an S flange also have a secondary shaft seal, which is a separate part.

A worn seal shows up as oil on the flange or in the bellhousing. Before fitting the new one, check the shaft for grooves where the lip runs. Check the pump series on the nameplate before ordering.
