Technical guide: BSP and NPT threads: how to identify, measure and tell apart BSPP, BSPT and NPT

90° elbow, S550 series, with a male BSPT end on one side and a male JIC 37° end on the other. The BSPT thread is tapered and seals on the thread itself, with thread sealant or tape; the JIC side takes the female hose fitting and seals on the 37° cone.

There are 6 combinations, with JIC from 7/16" to 3/4" and BSPT from 1/8" to 1/2". In the option list the first size is the JIC and the second the BSPT.

Check that the port has a tapered thread: a parallel BSP male does not seal properly in a BSPT port, nor a BSPT male in a parallel port.
